The Postgraduate Program in Food Science and Technology at the Federal University of Tocantins (PPGCTA-UFT) is based at the Palmas Campus, in the capital of the state of Tocantins. Food science and technology is a strategic field for regional development, aiming to train highly qualified professionals capable of developing new technologies through biotechnology and innovation, adding value to regional products, and proposing solutions to challenges specific to the Legal Amazon in collaboration with public and private sectors.

The PPGCTA-UFT is highly attentive to the social and environmental issues affecting the Legal Amazon. The Program is located within the Cerrado biome, in a transitional zone that borders both the Caatinga and the Amazon Rainforest. This region holds vast biodiversity—including fruits, microorganisms, and molecules—with significant biotechnological potential. These natural resources offer opportunities for the development of new technological processes and for adding value to existing products.

The PPGCTA-UFT also strives to meet regional, national, and international demands through partnerships and agreements with institutions across Brazil and countries such as France and Mexico. In this context, the consolidation of a modern infrastructure supports research activities, the development of food enterprises, product enhancement and value addition, as well as the strengthening of family farming through outreach initiatives conducted in collaboration with the Program's laboratories.

The Program also aims to become a reference center in the state in areas related to food security, food science, nutrition, and biotechnology. It contributes to the processing chain of the main fruits produced in Tocantins and promotes the training of professionals by deepening their knowledge, skills, and competencies within the Program’s research lines. This approach prepares graduates for dynamic and flexible professional performance in industrial, research, and academic activities.
