About PPGBec
The Postgraduate Program in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation (PPGBec) at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) in Porto Nacional aims to qualify and train graduates of the Biology program, as well as professionals in related fields, addressing the development needs of the northern region. Furthermore, it enables students to find innovative and creative solutions to the problems they face in their professional lives through research in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation.
The program is part of a strategy to train faculty working in the south-central region of the state of Tocantins and surrounding areas. In this sense, the project's impact enables the development of research in the state, as well as the deepening and reconfiguration of methodological and epistemological approaches in the field of Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation.
One of the factors that contributes to the relevance and impact of the Postgraduate Program in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation in Porto Nacional for the region and the field of Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation is its strengthening of an area of concentration in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation, which includes the research lines: Biology and Diversity; Conservation and Management; and Population and Community Ecology. The program provides a broad scope of research projects on various ecological and conservation phenomena.
In order to achieve social impact, the Master's in Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation develops initiatives aimed at students and graduates of the undergraduate Biology program at the Porto Nacional Campus. These initiatives aim to establish dialogue between undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty to improve and enhance teaching, research, and outreach services offered to the community through activities developed by master's faculty and students, as well as faculty from other higher education institutions. Furthermore, continuing education projects for faculty are essential for fostering community engagement and integration of the program, which will have a positive impact on society. Through these initiatives, the program promotes integration between undergraduate and graduate programs and the community which will improve the quality of teaching and research in the region.
