    The Professional Postgraduate Program in Public Policy Management (Gespol) at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) was created in response to the need to strengthen the dialogue between the university and institutions to enhance actions aimed at improving organizational and public policy management across different territorial dimensions. The program aims to mobilize and deepen topics of great relevance in the field of public policy management through the promotion of academic and professional debates, including representatives from various segments of civil society as well as government sectors and public agencies, in search of effective improvements in society that impact citizens’ lives in their territories.

    In this sense, the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), through established partnerships with various municipal, state, and federal institutions, has committed to training high-level managers for the improved elaboration, implementation, and evaluation of public policies, as well as researchers to work in the field in a qualified manner, following the perspective below:

    Mission

    To train high-level researchers and professionals capable of conducting complex studies for more effective decision-making that encompasses the entire public policy cycle, becoming a reference in the north-central region of Brazil.

    Objective

    To train high-level Professional Masters and PhDs in Public Policy Management to work in public administration at the municipal, state, and federal levels and in their interfaces with territorial development.

    As specific objectives, we have the following:

    • To provide students with theoretical and methodological knowledge so they can understand the new challenges generated by transformations in the organization and role of the Contemporary State in its territorial dimensions;
    • To contribute to the improvement of Public Policy management, especially at the federal, state, and municipal levels.
    • To strengthen conditions so that, in the medium term, a research center can be established at UFT dedicated to studies and proposals for intervention in State-related issues, especially public policies to promote territorial development.

    Postgraduates are expected to be capable of reflecting on the reality of the State and its institutional apparatus, with the ability to enhance their creative capacity in developing new institutionalities and resulting practices. They are also expected to have the tools to better execute, monitor, and evaluate the public policy cycle and its territorial dynamics.
