About PPGLetras

The Postgraduate Program in Language and Literature (PPGLetras) at UFT in Porto Nacional aims to qualify and train graduates of the Language and Literature program, as well as professionals from related fields, taking into account the development needs of the northern region. Furthermore, it enables students, through research in Literature and Linguistics, to find innovative and creative solutions to the problems they face in their professional lives. The program also seeks to provide students with theoretical and applied knowledge in the areas of literature, linguistics, and applied linguistics.

The program is therefore part of a strategy to improve the qualifications of the teaching staff working in the south-central region of the state of Tocantins and neighboring areas. In this regard, the project’s impact enables the development of research in the state, as well as the deepening and reconfiguration of methodological and epistemological approaches in the field of Literature and Linguistics.

One of the factors of relevance and impact of the Postgraduate Program in Language and Literature in Porto Nacional for the region and for the field of Literature and Linguistics is its strengthening through two areas of concentration and six lines of research: one concentration area in Linguistic Studies, which includes the research lines Approaches to Linguistic Analysis and Applied Linguistics, Text, Discourse and History, and Brazilian Sign Language; and another concentration area in Literary Studies, which includes the research lines Theory and Literary Criticism, Literature, History and Imagination, and Comparative Literature. In this way, the program provides a broad scope of research projects on various linguistic and literary phenomena.

To accomplish its social impact, the master’s in Literature develops initiatives aimed at students and graduates of the undergraduate Language and Literature program at the Porto Nacional campus. These initiatives aim to establish dialogue between undergraduate students, postgraduate students, graduates, and professors to improve and qualify the teaching, research, and extension activities offered to the community, through activities carried out by the program’s faculty and students, as well as by professors from other higher education institutions. Moreover, continuing education projects for teachers are essential for the program’s integration into the community, which will have a positive impact on society. Through these actions, the program promotes integration between undergraduate studies, the community, and postgraduate studies, and consequently improves the quality of teaching and research in the region.
