Area of Concentration
The Postgraduate Program in Biodiversity and Biotechnology – Bionorte Network (PPG-Bionorte) is composed of two areas of concentration and three lines of research:
Area 1: Biodiversity and Conservation
Since the basis for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity is undoubtedly in-depth knowledge regarding the subject, the program offers courses and encourages thesis work focused, for example, on estimating biodiversity, its characterization, and understanding the relationships between species.
Based on this knowledge, activities (courses, projects, workshops and others) that aim to understand population dynamics, germplasm conservation, natural resource management, design and implementation of agroforestry systems, bioremediation, recovery of degraded areas, among others, are also prioritized, always aiming at the conservation of the Amazon biome and the well-being of its populations.
Area 2: Biotechnology
This area of concentration aims to train PhDs focused on Bioprospecting and Bioprocess and Bioproduct Development. The courses offered in this area provide students with a theoretical and practical foundation in biomolecular sciences and bioprocess technologies, as well as the regulatory frameworks for bioprospecting and "biobusiness".
Taking advantage of this knowledge and having this immense biodiversity at our disposal, activities (courses, projects, workshops and others) that aim at the development of new biotechnologies for industrial purposes and also for the conservation of Amazonian ecosystems are prioritized, with the aim of developing bioindustry hubs in the Amazon and thus contributing to the conservation of the Amazon biome and the well-being of its populations.
