Research Lines
Environmental Control and Remediation:
The objective is to develop methods and techniques for controlling and remediating soil, water, and air contaminants, as well as to evaluate and create analytical methods that provide reliable results for characterizing environmental samples. It also seeks to propose instruments, processes, and methods that aim to utilize natural resources in harmony with environmental preservation, primarily seeking to protect the Cerrado and Amazon Rainforest biomes. This involves the development and application of new technologies for controlling and monitoring environmental pollution, through studies on atmospheric pollution, liquid effluent discharges, waste generation, soil and water contamination by pesticides, and other environmental impacts arising from industrial, agricultural, mining, and other activities that hinder the sustainable use of natural resources.
Science and Environmental Education:
Focuses on planning and developing initiatives to improve science education, specifically chemistry, and environmental education. Regarding science education, research focuses on teaching methodological tools and their contributions to learning and the relationship with knowledge, as well as scientific dissemination and informal educational spaces. From an environmental education perspective, research will adopt a critical perspective, in which environmental change must be aligned with the social commitment of each citizen to treat the environment as an integral part of society and as an integral part of their own education.
Chemistry of Natural Products:
Responsible for the identification, isolation, purification, and characterization of natural substances produced by the secondary metabolism of plants and microorganisms. Studies in this area are considered strategic because they involve understanding biodiversity in a broad sense, in addition to providing renewable sources of substances important in various fields of science and technology. Within this context, Chemistry of Natural Products involves the chemical, pharmacological, and biological investigation of medicinal plants and associated microorganisms, searching for new molecules with potential for medical, biochemical, biological, and agrochemical uses, in addition to the development of phytopreparations and the synthesis of natural products. In this line of research, computational calculations and simulations will be used to elucidate the electronic and structural aspects of the compounds of interest, further strengthening the experimental framework.
