History and Culture of the Amazonian Populations:
The Amazon is understood as a region of borders both in the traditional concept of geographic spaces and in its multiplicities, porosities, and symbolic displacements of borders. Thus, it proposes to study the similarities and differences of indigenous peoples; their festivals and rituals; the trajectories of peasant women from a gender perspective; the memories and experiences of women in areas affected by large-scale Amazonian enterprises; the actions of Protestant and Catholic religious figures and bandeirantes; the activities of miners and cattle ranchers seeking to integrate rural Brazil during the colonial, imperial, and republican periods; the delimitation of borders for indigenous peoples, sertanejos, and the world of rural labor; the organization of spaces dedicated as memorials and cultural heritage, such as museums, public archives, municipal and state libraries, and architectural preservation.
