The Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program — Academic Master’s in Forest and Environmental Sciences at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) was approved by CAPES/MEC in mid-2013, representing the realization of an important collective dream of faculty and graduates from the Agronomy, Forestry Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Biological Sciences courses from various regions of the country.

The program’s mission is to train highly qualified professionals committed to the sustainable development of natural resources through innovative and excellent education. The training aims to meet the demand for university-level teaching faculty, scientific researchers, and professionals capable of coordinating technical-scientific projects, as well as carrying out specialized activities in consultancy and technological development. The program’s focus is especially on the areas of Natural Resource Management, Silviculture, and Management of Natural and Planted Forests.

The relevance of offering another Master’s program in the Northern Region, particularly in the state of Tocantins, stands out, given the geographical limitations regarding access to Stricto Sensu postgraduate studies in Forest and Environmental Sciences. Since its creation in 2013 until today, the program has recorded 144 master’s thesis defenses. Graduates have worked as professors and researchers in public and private institutions of teaching, research, and sectors linked to forestry and industry, significantly contributing to the scientific and technological advancement of the region and the country.

For the new four-year period (2025-2028), the coordination, together with the PPGCFA committee and its faculty, will be restructuring the program’s curriculum to accommodate the new doctoral course.
