About Profmat

ProfMat (UFT/Arraias) is an affiliation with the Professional Master’s Program in Mathematics in National Network (ProfMat). It is a blended (semi-presential) course offered nationwide, conducted by a network of Higher Education Institutions within the scope of the Open University of Brazil (UAB) and coordinated by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM).

ProfMat aims to serve Mathematics teachers currently working in basic education, especially in public schools, who seek to enhance their professional training, with an emphasis on deep mastery of relevant mathematical content for their teaching practice. The program operates on a large scale, intending, in the medium term, to have a substantive impact on the mathematical education of teachers throughout the national territory.

The objectives of ProfMat align with the statutory mission of the SBM to “stimulate the improvement of Mathematics teaching at all levels” and also meet the goals of Law No. 13,005/2014 (National Education Plan), which establishes in its Goal 16: “to train, at the graduate level, 50% (fifty percent) of basic education teachers by the last year of this PNE’s validity, and to ensure continuing education in their area of expertise for all basic education professionals, considering the needs, demands, and contextualization of the education systems.”

The program is coordinated by the Management Council and the National Academic Committee, operating under the authority of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Mathematical Society, and is executed by the Academic Committees of the Associated Institutions.

Scholarships are available for teachers from public basic education institutions, granted by Capes. Selection is conducted through the National Access Exam for ProfMat (ENA-ProfMat).
